About Course

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Foundations introduces learners to the principles of understanding and responding to behaviours that may challenge in care and support environments.

The course focuses on identifying the causes of behaviour, recognising triggers, and applying proactive, person-centred strategies to promote safety, dignity, and wellbeing.

Learners develop practical awareness skills to support individuals respectfully while reducing distress and improving quality of life.

Course Content

Understanding Challenging Behaviour
This module introduces the concept of behaviours that challenge and explores why behaviour is a form of communication. Key Topics: Definition of challenging behaviour Common types of challenging behaviour Behaviour as communication Underlying causes (physical, emotional, environmental) Importance of understanding behaviour without judgement Learners understand that behaviour often reflects unmet needs, discomfort, fear, or communication difficulty.

The ABC Model (Antecedent, Behaviour, Consequence)
This module introduces the ABC Model, a structured approach to understanding behaviour.
