About Course

This course provides a strong foundation in safeguarding adults at risk. Learners will understand how to recognise harm, respond appropriately to concerns, follow legal and organisational procedures, and promote dignity, safety, and rights within social care settings.

Understanding Adult Support and Protection
This introductory lesson provides the "moral compass" and the legal foundation for everything else you will learn in this course. It moves beyond the idea of "doing a job" and focuses on the fundamental right of every adult to live a life free from harm, exploitation, and neglect.

Understanding Adult Support and Protection

Adults at Risk and Types of Harm
Learners examine who may be considered an adult at risk and the factors that increase vulnerability, such as disability, age, mental health conditions, illness, or social isolation. The lesson also covers different forms of harm and abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, neglect, self-neglect, institutional, and discriminatory abuse, with practical examples.

Recognising Abuse and Safeguarding Responsibilities
This lesson focuses on identifying signs and indicators of abuse or neglect. Learners explore physical, emotional, behavioural, and environmental warning signs. It also explains the roles and responsibilities of care workers and organisations, emphasising professional boundaries, accountability, and the importance of acting on concerns.

Responding, Reporting, and Recording Concerns
Learners are taught how to respond appropriately when abuse is suspected or disclosed. This lesson covers listening and reassuring, immediate actions to ensure safety, correct reporting procedures, accurate record keeping, and maintaining confidentiality while understanding when information must be shared to protect an individual.

Legal Frameworks and Preventing Abuse
The final lesson introduces key legislation, policies, and guidance that support adult safeguarding. Learners explore person-centred and rights-based approaches, consent and capacity, and how safe working practices, ethical behaviour, and a strong safeguarding culture help prevent abuse and promote high-quality care.
